I love my job...

Hi friends,

It has been awhile since I have written but that is understandable considering my job! Over the past 4 weeks (it seems like longer), I have been in training, training my staff, and I just completed opening! I absolutely love my staff and wouldn't trade them for the world! We have laughed, cried, and laughed some more! More updates to come on them....by the way, the picture above is from yearbookyourself.com! My sister introduced me to the site and this was one of the door decorations I made for them! Don't you just love it! You can click on the picture and make it larger!

On the pottery side, I haven't had time to do any more but I'm enrolling in another class this fall! See you all soon!

Summer of 08...

Okay....so I haven't posted in quite some time due to me being soo busy with closing the building, working with summer conferences, working in general, etc. We are in the middle of summer here at WCU and are just about on the downward slope of students returning back to school! YAY!!!

This summer, I was able to return to one of my past loves! I know what you are thinking..did she get back with an old boyfriend and if so, who? NO, NO, NO! I fell back in love with ceramics! In 03, I graduated and said to goodbye to my artsy ways and started doing other things in my life (graduate degree, etc). Now, five years later, I decided that it was time to pick back up where I left off in 03. I found a great community college that offers ceramics classes for all ages and it is at a reasonable price! For $60.00 and the cost of clay...you too can join a pottery class at SCC.

The class is wonderful, the facilities are spectacular, and the people are the best! I am the youngest of nine women with the majority of them being retired teachers and nurses. They are beginners in pottery and veterans at life! I love it! I signed up for the beginners class because I wasn't sure if ceramics was like riding a bike but discovered that I picked up where I left off in 03. It is so nice to go in there and leave work at the door, the cell phone locked in the car, and the stress that is in my life is pushed into the clay and into a piece of functional pottery. I now have over twenty pieces done and will continue to make more before the class is over.

As of right now, they haven't posted the new class schedule for the fall but I am hoping that at least one will work around my busy schedule! I need 'this' with my schedule and what is going on in my life!

"I carried a watermelon..."

So..this is the first blog of many future blogs! I decided that I would write about the small and exciting things that happen "in the Whee world" or the surrounding areas. Katie (my sister) and I traveled to this fantastic place called Chimney Rock and then made our way to Lake Lure a couple of weeks ago. Chimney Rock is known for it's spectacular views of beautiful North Carolina. The elevation in parts is over 2280 feet. Some people might recognize it as the place where Daniel Day Lewis jumped off the cliff in the movie 'Last of the Mochicans'. As you can tell in the pictures from the day they were very foggy and we are looking forward to going back and actually seeing the sights. We also went to the cherished spot where parts of the movie 'Dirty Dancing' were filmed. It is such a sad thing to see that construction and the growth of the town has overcome such a great part of movie history. From what we have gathered, one of the original buildings burned down and the land was sold to a developer. The picture to the left is that of the stairs where 'Baby' carried a watermelon! It was definitely an awesome day and know that I will continue to explore North Carolina and the surrounding area. I want to make the most out of this chapter in my life!
